Bola / Babybell

Stados Unidos Mexicanos, or just Mexico as we call it here in the Netherlands. The country with more than 124.5 million inhabitants, known for its guacamole, tacos and tequila, but also forits old faith cultures and old traditions. One of these traditions is the Mexican Bola, also called pregnancy bell! [We call this babybell] The Bola is a form of decoration that comes from hundreds of years of Mayan history and was used to invoke good spirits or to protect the wearer. This piece of jewelry hanging on a long chain is also called ‘harmony ball’ or ‘angel caller’ and features a spherical pendant, formed with a small ball inside that forms aproduces beautifully subtle but audible sound when shaken. Carried by expectant mothers during pregnancy, resting against the abdomen, so that during any movement the unborn child hears a soft ringing sound [from about 16-20 weeks].

Create a sense of calm

The soft, soothing sound of the bola has a calming effect on both mother and baby. The sound can create a sense of calm, well-being and can reducing stress. Wearing a pregnancy necklace can help the mother relax and unwind during pregnancy. The sound of the bells can serve as a kind of meditative element that relieves stress and helps to focus on the baby’s well-being. A pregnancy necklace can become a special ritual for the mother, where she feels connected to her baby and is aware of her pregnancy. This can help create a positive mindset and promote a sense of joy and anticipation during pregnancy.

How to use the bola.

Wear the bola in such a way that the bola rests on your belly preferably near the navel. The intention is that the soft sounds that the bola makes during movement are nice to here for the baby in the womb. Make sure the chain fits securely and comfortably. You can wear the bola during the entire pregnancy.
